Open a file

On Mac, choose Open Project, press ⌘O, or open an MPP file from Finder. On iPhone or iPad, choose Choose MPP File and select it in Apple’s document picker.

Try the sample

Choose Explore Sample Project on iPhone or iPad, or File → Explore Sample Project on Mac.

System requirements

macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon, or iOS/iPadOS 17 or later. GanttPeek is read-only and works offline.

If a file will not open

  1. Confirm the file name ends in .mpp and is no larger than 50 MB on iPhone/iPad or 100 MB on Mac.
  2. Move a copy to a local folder and try again. Cloud placeholders must be downloaded first.
  3. Password-protected MPP files are not supported. Use an authorized unprotected copy.
  4. Try the built-in sample. If the sample also fails, restart your device and reinstall from the App Store.

What to include in an email

Protect project confidentiality. Do not attach a customer or employer MPP file unless you are authorized and support specifically asks for a minimal test file. A newly created, non-confidential reproduction is preferred.

Protected files

The current parser rejects password-protected MPP files. The app does not recover unknown passwords or bypass file protection.

Known version 1 limits

GanttPeek extracts core names, dates, durations, hierarchy, dependencies, resource identities, and basic assignments from supported MPP8, MPP9, MPP12, and MPP14 / Project 16.x files. Baselines, progress, constraints, notes, real calendar exceptions, custom fields, resource capacity and costs, source critical-path flags, and some assignment details are not extracted. Exact Project 2021, Project 2024, and Microsoft 365 origin cannot be distinguished within their shared binary family. The app displays a data note when these limits apply.

GanttPeek also opens MPT templates, Microsoft Project XML, Primavera P6 XER, Primavera P6 XML, and MPX files. Primavera files show projects, WBS, activities, dates, durations, progress, constraints, relationships, resources, and assignments; calendars, costs, activity codes, notes, and steps are not read. MPX files show tasks, outline, dates, durations, progress, baselines, constraints, notes, links, resources, and assignments; costs, work, calendars, and custom fields are not read.

Exports

On Mac, use File → Export Tasks as CSV or File → Export Schedule Report as PDF. On iPhone and iPad, open the More menu and choose a CSV or PDF share action. To export the Gantt chart itself, choose File → Export Gantt Chart as PDF or as PNG Image on Mac, or Share Gantt Chart PDF or Share Gantt Chart Image from the More menu on iPhone and iPad. To print it, choose File → Print Gantt Chart (⌘P) on Mac or Print Gantt Chart from the More menu. Exports are new files; the original project file is never modified.

Purchases and refunds

GanttPeek includes one real project at no charge; reopening that project does not use another slot. GanttPeek Pro unlocks unlimited projects, as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription or as GanttPeek Lifetime, a one-time, non-consumable purchase. Customers who bought version 1.0 receive Lifetime automatically.

To restore Lifetime, open Lifetime Access and choose Restore Purchases while signed in to the App Store account that made or shares the purchase. Apple handles billing, receipts, Family Sharing availability, and refund requests. Use Apple’s purchase-support process for payment or refund issues.
